A Letter from
Dr. Karen Warren Coleman
Eugene McDermott Head of School
Dear Friends,
On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students, I offer my sincere gratitude for your enduring commitment to the mission and continued growth of The Hockaday School. Your support was particularly important as the School grappled with the many challenges brought by the pandemic. Your exceptional generosity allowed the School to continue to provide an extraordinary education to every Hockaday girl throughout these challenging seasons.
Our campus is buzzing with energy and enthusiasm once again. Our girls continue to learn and grow in unique and amazing ways, always searching for opportunities to expand their horizons, share their voices and talents, and serve the greater community. Our phenomenal teachers, advisors, and coaches remain dedicated to providing an incredible student experience and equipping each girl with the tools she needs to succeed.
In addition to conservative management of the Endowment and prudent oversight of the budget, Hockaday remains financially secure, in large part, due to your generosity. The incredible support of our community makes it possible for Hockaday to offer the finest curricular and co-curricular opportunities for our girls. Your generous investment enables us to provide excellent and innovative student and faculty programs and to enhance affordability and access.
This Annual Report of Gifts details gifts to Hockaday during the Academic Year 2020–2021. I am pleased to share the following highlights:
- The Annual Fund, which helps fill the approximately $8,000 per-student tuition gap, exceeded $2.4 million this past fiscal year; and
- The Endowment totaled over $191 million at the close of the fiscal year.
As we know, tuition alone does not cover the cost of a Hockaday education. Your support, through Annual Fund gifts and gifts to the Endowment, provides Hockaday with the resources it needs to encourage and to promote in every girl the development of her own confidence, enthusiasm, character, and intellect. Thank you for your commitment to supporting our girls. We remain committed to providing the best possible education and opportunities to enrich each girl’s unique journey.
With enduring appreciation,
DR. KAREN WARREN COLEMAN
